Do you need to make improvements to your industrial safety? Safety switches, also known as residual current breakers or RCDs, are a requirement in Western Australia. In fact, they have been mandatory on power circuits since 1991, and mandatory on light circuits since 2000. For each domestic location installation, there is a minimum requirement of two RCDs.
In Australia, lighting circuits and socket outlets, are required to be distributed via circuit RCDs. On a single RCD, it is possible to have a maximum of three sub-circuits. For many who are not electricians, all the requirements can be difficult to understand. We can help to ensure you are complying with the law, and that your location is safely and properly using the RCDs.
The purpose of these devices is to instantly break an electric circuit. For example, if there were a problem with the device, and it causes a shock, the RCD would break the circuit to reduce the potential harm the shock could cause.
It is important to note that the RCD does not provide protection from spikes or surges, to it cannot be used to replace a fuse, and it can’t be used to protect from overheating. The safety switches have a clearly defined role, as noted.
The laws state that RCDs need to be installed in industrial facilities, as well as on commercial properties. If you do not have the RCDs installed now, you should get in contact with Hilton Electrical today so we can help you with this and any other electrical issues you might have. Keep in mind that not only do the RCDs need to be installed, but they need to be audited and checked on a regular basis to ensure they are working properly.
Trying to keep track of all the requirements and standards can be difficult. We understand that, and we understand the need for proper safety. We can provide you with the RCDs, and we can take care of checking and auditing them, so your business is following the law.
You want to have the professionals from Hilton Electrical come out to your facility to provide an inspection and to make sure everything is up to standards.
